The lawmaker representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, Kwara State, Ahmed Adamu Saba, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for immediate directive to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and other security agencies to urgently rescue his constituency from the clutch of bandits and kidnappers.
The lawmaker, who said that he has been deeply traumatised and saddened about the development, further urged Egbetokun, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, and the Director of DSS to help in alleviating security challenges bedevilling the three local governments and their environs.
He, however, commiserated with the families, relations, and friends of the victims as he appealed for calm, assuring that peace would be returned to the affected communities in no distant time.
Speaking with newsmen on phone, the legislator recalled the recent event in Tashagi community, in Edu Local Government Area, where a cattle rearer was killed.
According to him, his five children were also abducted by the gunmen and taken to an unknown place till date.
“In Gbugbu community, along Ndeji road, another community in my constituency, a businessman who was kidnapped with his manager by gunmen have not been released more than two weeks after their abduction,” he said.
The lawmaker, through his Special Assistant (Digital Media), Bello Hamidu, expressed concern that “the development has caused serious safety concerns in the affected communities and also thrown the residents into mourning.
“In fact, as we speak, they’re asking for more ransom and threatening to harm the victims,” he said in a statement.
According to him, my people can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed, to go to farm is now difficult for the fear of being attacked, they can no longer freely go to do their legitimate businesses, it’s that bad.
“This is not acceptable, and this kind of inhuman and criminal activities can no longer be accepted, something needs to be done urgently to return situation to normalcy in my constituency.”
He appealed to Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, and the IG “to quickly come to our rescue in my constituency, situation is really bad, about the activities of bandits and kidnappers.
“This development is unacceptable in any community and surely cannot continue to happen.”
Saba sympathised with residents over the saddening development, assuring to collaborate with the state and federal governments to ensure that security of lives and properties are secured, not only in the community, but in the entire constituency.
