The need to address food insecurity and mental health has been said to be crucial to mitigate its devastating impact on individuals and communities in Nigeria.
It has also been said that “food insecurity exists when people do not have access to adequate nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life, which can affect individual mental health.”
The new District Governor of Lions Clubs International, District 404B3 Nigeria, Adelaja Adeleye, said this at the 2025-2026 Lions Service Year media briefing in Lagos, which coincided with a handing-over ceremony held in Lagos on Tuesday.
Adeleye, during the briefing, themed “Impacting Lives,’ affirmed that his regime would focus on creating meaningful impacts in communities to boost growth and development.
However, shortly after he was handed the responsibility to pilot the affairs of the administration, Adeleye, while unfolding his plans, said his government would focus attention on relieving hunger, tackling cases of mental health through purposeful campaigns, membership drive, and supporting meaningful initiatives aimed at promoting environmental responsibility, among others.
The new governor also affirmed that he would leverage and build on the past administration’s achievements to foster sustainable growth and development, as well as touch lives and positively impact the community.
“This year, we are inspired by the theme from our international president, ‘Lead to Serve, Serve to Lead.’ This phrase reminds us that true leadership is rooted in service, and service is the gateway to genuine leadership.
“Hence, we shall be implementing feeding programmes and food security projects in all communities across our District.
“We will also launch campaigns to raise awareness, provide support, and reduce the stigma and challenges faced by mental health victims because mental health is a global issue and a healthy mind is essential for a thriving community,” he said.
He, therefore, called on members to embrace unity and share commitment for greater impact.
Earlier, the Immediate Past District Governor, 404B3 Nigeria, Dr Ibrahim Bello, in his goodwill message, hailed the new governor for his leadership prowess in taking the club forward.
