Key stakeholders in the Kano business community have directed the immediate unsealing of the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) premises.

The stakeholders, under the Grand Patron of the chamber and business magnate, Alh. Aminu Alhassan Dantata, also ordered warring factions in the chamber’s leadership crisis, to withdraw all pending and originating litigations for peace restoration.

In a statement by KACCIMA Director General, Aliyu Mustapha, the stakeholders demanded Kano State Police Command withdraw police officers laying siege at the premises to allow management staff to resume duty immediately.

According to the DG, the stakeholders have set up fresh seven members interim committee, under the chairmanship of Alh. Ahmad Aminu, to run the affairs and organise the AGM. In the resolution of the key stakeholders, non of the seven members of the interim committee should contest the executive posts.

Those at the expanded critical stakeholders meeting held at the weekend include the Makama Bichi, Alh. Isyaku Umar Tofa, Alh. Abdulkarim Dayyabu, Alh. Lawan Sule Garo, Suraj Sa’eeda SAN and others.

The Guardian recently reported how weeds and reptiles took over the entire premises of the chamber following the leadership crisis that has crippled over N5billion business opportunities, even as the police command deployed officers to place the area under lock.

This intervention of the patrons and past presidents of the chamber came seven months after the entire business activities and diplomatic interchange was brought to a halt, with no apology for the unfortunate tussle between vested interest among members council members and other powerful influence parties within the business community.

Although, Kano State government in April this year, dissolved the outgoing executive members under the leadership of Alh. Abubaka Dalhatu, citing the inability of the council to resolve internal disagreement and, most essentially, failure to conduct Annual General Meeting that would produce new leadership.

Subsequently, the state government, under the directive of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Usman Alhaji, constituted a seven-member caretaker committee under the chairmanship of Alh. Lawan Sule with the mandate to manage the chamber’s affairs and ensure the conduct of elections within six months.

Though the Ganduje caretaker committee was unable to conduct fresh AGM six months done the lane, a court of competent jurisdiction has nullified the constitution of the caretaker committee, for lacking the requisite powers to preside over a company guarantee under limited liability.

The legal battle instituted by another interested party challenging the action of the state government is slated for a hearing at a later date. With the intervention of the patrons in the leadership crisis, it is not clear whether or not the legal actions would be withdrawn.
