Man docked for allegedly shielding son over rape

THE police in Kano yesterday arraigned a 50-year-old farmer, Adam Umar, for allegedly shielding an offender.

The accused was charged with shielding an offender, an offence which contravenes Section 167 of Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Insp. Junaidu Aminu told a Magistrates’ Court sitting at No Mansland, Kano, that on April 11, one Suleiman Mustapha of Balare village, Ajingi Local Government Area, reported the case at Ajingi Police Division.

The prosecutor said that on April 10, one Usman Adam of Laura village now at large, attacked the complainant’s wife at Kaura bush.

Aminu alleged that Usman Adam used a knife and had sexual intercourse with the complaint’s wife and also extorted N2, 300 from her.

He further added that when Adam was arrested by one Muhammad Inuwa, the father, Adam Umar demanded for the son’s release.

The prosecutor said that the accused son subsequently escaped.

The accused, however, denied committing the offence.

Magistrate Fatima Muhammad granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till June 11, for further mention.
