Former House of Representatives aspirant in Cross River State, Dr. Martha Agba, has congratulated the people of Bekwarra and Obudu on the successful celebration of their 2025 cultural festivals — the Ipem Ihihe and the New Yam Festival.
In goodwill messages, Agba praised the traditional institutions for their commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of their people.
She described the Ipem Ihihe Festival as a reflection of the resilience, communal spirit, and thanksgiving culture of Bekwarra under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Odey Linus Ogbeche.
She also lauded the Obudu New Yam Festival as a rallying point for strengthening communal bonds, gratitude, and continuity, commending the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, His Royal Majesty, Chief Felix Abanbeshie Okudare, and his council of chiefs for safeguarding the tradition.
As part of the celebrations, Agba visited both paramount rulers to personally felicitate with them and their people. During her visit to Obudu, she presented cash and other gift items in support of the festival.
Prominent traditional leaders in attendance included Chief Godwin Iyala, Prince Linus Jnr., Barr. Pius Onigah, Chief Tony Akpelishi, Chief Victor Akpung, Chief Francis Agorye, Chief Akomaye Agba, and Chief Agba Anthony.
Agba also highlighted government efforts to assist those affected by recent floods in Obudu, noting that relief measures were already in motion.
She urged the people of Bekwarra and Obudu to continue using such festivals as platforms to promote peace, mutual respect, and development.
She wished both communities a peaceful and prosperous celebration.
