Military foils over N19m oil theft, nabs 39 suspects

The Joint Task Force in the South South zone, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), foiled over N19 million worth of oil theft and arrested 39 suspects in connection with various criminal activities between Sept. 13 and Sept. 21, 2025.

Also, during the period, troops of OPDS rescued five kidnap victims and killed some suspected criminals.

Similarly, troops of Operation Udo Ka (OPUK) in the South East killed some terrorists/criminals, arrested six of them, and rescued three kidnapped victims, recovering weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and improvised explosive devices.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this during a briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

Kangye gave the breakdown of the foiled oil theft as 14,760 litres of stolen crude oil, 3,720 litres of DPK, and 625 litres of PMS.

He said the troops also discovered and destroyed 14 crude oil cooking ovens, seven dugout pits, 11 boats, eight storage tanks, and 16 illegal refining sites.

He said the arrests included 19 oil thieves and 16 suspected criminals in Ika North, Sapele, and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State, as well as Obubra and Mbo LGAs of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, while three kidnapped victims were rescued.

The DMO said four other suspected criminals were arrested in Warri South and Ethiope LGAs of Delta State, as well as Yenagoa and Onna LGAs of Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States.

In the Southeast, Kangye said that troops conducted offensive operations in Njaba and Mbaitoli LGAs of Imo State, as well as Bakassi and Obubra LGAs of Cross River State, and Ezeagu and Orumba North LGAs of Enugu and Anambra, between Sept. 17 and Sept. 23, 2025, resulting in the arrest of suspects and the rescue of kidnapped victims.
