Ministry, others seek shift from policy talks to implementation

Nigeria’s push for industrial transformation gained fresh momentum as the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG) rounded off a two-day technical session in Lagos with resolutions aimed at shifting national focus from policy talks to tangible outcomes.

Held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos, the meeting brought together over 20 institutions spanning government, the private sector, regulatory bodies, and development partners. Convened under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), the session was led by the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh.

In his keynote address, Enoh urged stakeholders to move beyond passive engagements and deliver measurable results.

“This is not another conference. This is a pivot point. Nigeria cannot afford to continue the cycle of plans without implementation. IRWG is our engine room for delivery,” he declared.

Themed “From Activities to Outcomes: Driving Industrial Renaissance,” the session featured working groups and targeted discussions across five key thematic areas, producing a set of resolutions described as actionable and time-bound.

On energy and infrastructure, the group recommended embedded power systems, dedicated energy corridors, and harmonised energy incentives for industrial zones. A naira-denominated energy pricing strategy and sector-wide gap analysis were also proposed.

To bridge skills gaps, participants endorsed the creation of a National Industrial Skills Development Framework, the revival of technical and vocational colleges, and stronger integration of industry-led apprenticeships through the proposed National Skills Development and Innovation Framework (NSDIF).

Other resolutions targeted local production and market competitiveness. They included a national campaign to promote made-in-Nigeria products, stricter import control measures.
