Mohammed presents N300.2b budget to Bauchi Assembly

Sokoto Assembly approves 2024-2026 MTEF 

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, yesterday, presented a N300,219,705,820 budget estimate for 2024 to the House of Assembly for scrutiny and passage.
  
Mohammed said the document he tagged ‘Budget Of Consolidation and Renewed Focus’ comprises recurrent expenditure of N121,341,193,343.11 (40.4 per cent) and capital expenditure of N178,878,512,477.49 (59.6 per cent).
  
​The proposed 2024 budget is 48.2 per cent higher than the 2023 edition. The governor attributed this to the increased revenue arising from subsidy removal and the upward inflationary trends associated with the depreciating state of the local currency.  

IN Sokoto State, the House of Assembly approved Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s request of consideration for the 2024-2026 State Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
  
House leader, Bello Idris (APC, Gwadabawa North) urged the lawmakers to consider the governor’s request in line with the Fiscal Responsibility Law of Sokoto State 2019.
  
“The governor submitted the 2024-2026 Sokoto State MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for consideration, providing Macro-Economic Projection and Analysis to guide revenue and expenditure.”

“This expenditure framework and fiscal strategy outline projections for effective implementation are based on developmental priorities,” he explained.
 
In a majority voice vote, the House presided over by the Speaker, Tukur Bala, after resolving at the committee of the whole, approved the MTEF, allowing for any necessary amendments.
  
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Assembly temporarily suspended its standing orders, allowing members to convene today for the governor’s proposed 2024 budget presentation, overriding the usual Monday and Friday committee meeting days.
