The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralphs Okey Nwosu, has said moral issues within the polity will, sooner or later, drown the people, without exception.

Speaking on the circumstances and controversies surrounding the academic certificate of President Bola Tinubu, Nwosu, while declining comment on legal aspect, since it is before the court, however, noted that issues of forged certificate and identify swapping are beyond pardon, if the country’s democracy means anything to Nigerians, warning that democracy is under threat globally, but when lawmakers and political authorities are seen as fraudsters, the people are in a tragic state.

On the president’s independence anniversary speech, he said that it failed to acknowledge the fragility of his presidency and how this has beclouded the general psych and polluted the nation, government and business space.

Nwosu stated: “Treating very seriously the matters that arose from the general election that seem to affect the legitimacy of his presidency, his current positioning, with such disdainful attitude, is demeaning his stature as a leader and rubs all patriots wrongly.

“He must acknowledge the obvious and be seen to be addressing it genuinely. The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, may his soul rest in peace, even with minimal issues, showed serious concern during his time and started his presidency by doing something about the integrity of the process that brought him to power.

“Notwithstanding the outcome of the court proceedings, a more worthy thing to do at this stage for the country is for Tinubu to sponsor a bill that will ensure that court cases are done with before a president is sworn in, because with legitimacy crisis, no one can perform at all, let alone miracles.

“Cowboy grandstanding and antics will at the end come to nothing than self-serving, delusional and certainly not nation-building.

“The conscience is an open wound, those playing Russian roulette with Nigeria must think twice. The future of our children, all Nigeria children, should be of utmost concern to all in authority or struggling to lead. Leaders must be above board and accountable in every sense.”

According to him: “I feel that for Atiku (Abubakar), a proprietor in the academic field, running a university and breeding future leaders, all he is doing to bring truth to light is part of leadership.”
