NAWOJ applauds Akawu’s appointment as NBS General Manager

THE Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Zone D, has congratulated its pioneer chairperson in Nasarawa State, Mrs. Patricia Akawu, on her recent appointment as the General Manager (GM) of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS).
The appointment, made by Governor Abdullahi Sule, has been described as “a testament to experience and leadership” by Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche, the NAWOJ Vice President for Zone D (which includes Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, and the FCT).

She described the appointment as a clear testament to Akawu’s extensive experience and strong leadership skills, expressing confidence that Akawu will excel in her new role.

“The appointment of Mrs. Patricia Akawu as General Manager NBS did not come as a surprise, given her outstanding contributions to journalism and tireless advocacy for women’s rights,” Ogbeche stated in a press statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Juliana Ofoku.

She said, “Her dedication and expertise have earned her this well-deserved recognition, and it is indeed a plus for the womenfolk to contribute to the development of Nasarawa State and the nation.”

Acknowledging women’s capacity, Ogbeche commended Governor Sule for appointing “a seasoned journalist and administrator,” highlighting that the move shows the government’s recognition of women’s ability to contribute significantly to the state’s development.

The Vice President also pledged the support of Nigerian women, particularly those in the North Central region, for national development and governance.
Before her new role, Mrs. Akawu headed the Department of News and Current Affairs at NBS. She takes over from Aloko Flashman, who retired in May 2025.
