NEMA sensitises Niger traders, residents on fire prevention
As harmattan season sets in, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, Niger State, has sensitised traders and residents on fire prevention.
Head, NEMA, Minna Operations Office, Zainab Sai’du, said the exercise was to create awareness on fire prevention, for people, especially traders, to take precautionary measures in handling inflammable materials.
Sai’du, who was represented by the Head, Disaster and Risk Reduction Unit, Dr. Zainab Ndanusa, explained that fire had claimed several lives and property.
Her words: “NEMA, Minna Operations Office, realised that the time is apt to sensitise the public, to ensure that all mitigative measures are put in place to reduce the negative effect of fire disasters.”
The Secretary, Abdulkadir Kure Ultra Modern Market Minna, Ishaku Abdullahi, advised traders to adhere to safety measures by switching off all electrical appliances in their shops before closing and having fire extinguishers in their shops in case of fire outbreak.
