• Group warns against exploiting tragedy for selfish, political gains
Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has called for thorough investigation into the accidental drone attack at Tudun-Biri, Igabi Local Council of Kaduna State. The Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, made the call, yesterday, in Kaduna, when he visited to condole with the government and people of the state over the unfortunate incident.
The governor, who came on behalf of the 36 governors of the federation, said that the governors would ensure that those found culpable were brought to justice.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna thanked the NGF for the show of support and solidarity in the state’s moment of grief. He also expressed appreciation to AbdulRazaq for visiting Kaduna to condole with the government and people.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the unfortunate incident, which occurred on December 3, 2023, resulted in the death of over 100 persons, leaving many others injured.
MEANWHILE, Kaduna State Patriot and Good Governance Forum (KSPGG) has called on citizens of the state and Nigerians to rally round Tudun-Biri bomb victims and find a way to support them, rather than seeking parochial gains over their misfortune.
It was reacting to the N33 billion lawsuit, reportedly instituted by one Dalhatu Salihu against the Federal Government over the mishap, and a statement where the Southern Kaduna for Peace and Unity Forum berated the state government over its handling of the situation.
President of the group, Awwal Aliyu, tasked the Tudun-Biri community to be careful of whom they relate with to avoid falling into the hands of those that have nothing good for them, but only want to use them to achieve their parochial ends. He also cautioned those who want to benefit from the conflict to desist.
“We are aware of a lawsuit filed by one Mukhtar Usman, counsel to one Dalhatu Salihu, who is claiming to do so on behalf of the villagers. They are demanding an apology in three national dailies and N33 billion compensation.
“While it is the villagers’ right to seek legal redress, we wish to caution them against falling into the trap of idle lawyers, who do not genuinely care about their predicament, but are more concerned about dispossessing them of the little assistance they have got from good-spirited individuals,” Aliyu said.
While acknowledging the strides made in addressing the unfortunate incident by different groups, the group urged lawyers and politicians to refrain from politicising the situation.
It added: “It is crucial that we maintain a united front and work towards resolving these challenges collectively, rather than exploiting them for personal or political gain. They should also be wary of taking briefs from urban jobbers, who don’t have a direct connection with the victims they claim to be fighting for.’’
“We are particularly sad that despite concerted efforts by the state government, some individuals operating under the pseudonym of Southern Kaduna for Peace and Unity Forum, instead of commending the government’s effort for rallying support for the community, tagged it as ‘utterly selfish’ pressure on the Federal Government of Nigeria to rebuild the community. The group, after listing the donations made to the community, went further to ask the governor to make public what has been given to the community.”
