As part of its efforts to cushion hardship and hunger for vulnerable widows, a non-governmental organization,( NGO), Total Life Concern, has distributed food items, clothes, and other accessories in Lagos, as a measure to ease the effect of the economic hardship on the beneficiaries.

The event was held in an enclosed environment, in Lagos to avoid stampede. Some widows who benefitted from the gesture included communities like Orile, Agboju, Surulere, Ijesha, and Ajah. This act of kindness had excited widows and their households going home with food items and some of them got cash gifts, while others got vocational tools.

Convener of the Initiative, Barrister Edirin Essiet revealed that the reason this gesture came at this particular time is due to the hardship being faced by many Nigerians who might not even have what to eat during this festive period.

“My message to wealthy and meaningful Nigerians and all of us is that this is the time to show love. This is the 8th anniversary of our annual widow’s party and empowerment scheme. It is the organisation, way of showing them a sense of belonging during the yuletide period

Essiet further stated that her choice of celebrating with widows is in tandem with the current economic realities of the country which has made it difficult for many widows to feed and cater for their household.

Mrs Essiet who is known for her humanitarian gesture noted that her love for giving was informed by the series of experiences that she had while growing up, noting that life was not a bed of roses, and that she will continue to give as long as she lives

The reason for this is that in our society things are so hard, some family can’t even feed. Some family might not have what to eat during the festive period that is the reason why we thought to put something on the table of widows, who do not have breadwinners anymore

“Government can also support us with whatever they can by giving us money or food items to go to places where people are suffering”, she said.

Pastor Tobi Popoola from Mountain of Fire Miracle Ministries, (MFM), Lekki Youth Church, Region 3 cautioned Christians against maltreatment of widows, the orphans and the indigents in society, stressing that such actions attract the wrath of God.

Today’s event is the reenactment of the covenant we have with God, that at the end of every year, we shall call widows and the indigents and empower them, put smiles in their faces and make them feel belonged in the society.

The cleric admonished them,(widows) to anchor their faith in God, live a peaceful and chaste life, assuring that God will always fight for them in all circumstances.

Some of the beneficiaries who could not hide their excitement thanked the founder and the organisation for the kind gesture, while urging other organisations to emulate all that TLC was doing to make life a better place for the disadvantaged.

The president of Ajah women, Mrs Roseline Ogbeide said since her husband demise,no tangible support from the family members but the organization has been very supportive and helpful to her and the children.

Ogbeide applauded the activities of the NGO, stating that the annual event has continually elevated their status. She requested prayers for the NGO to fully attain its lofty dreams and goals.

Some of the indigent widows received cash gifts, tools, grinding machine, food items and clothings.

Uwana Joseph and Funke Akiniyi expressed gratitude for the support they got. Uwana Joseph said she has been praying for help,to get a sustainable income for her children and God heard the cry. He is the husband of the widows
Also, Funke Akiniyi delightedly said that the joy in her is contagious. Thanking God for the widows forum and called on government to assist in providing money or food items so as to reach larger crowds

She revealed that this gesture came at this particular time to sub due the hardship being faced by many Nigerians who might not even have what to eat during this festive period.But God is good.
