NGO invests N10.4m to rehabilitate, empower former sex workers

In an initiative aimed at transforming lives and offering hope, the Blossom Girls Outreach Foundation has invested N10.4 million in 15 months to rehabilitate and empower former sex workers in Nigeria.

The non-governmental organization provided essential support services to four girls rescued from prostitution, including housing, feeding, counseling, medical care, and vocational training. Two of the beneficiaries completed the program successfully and were awarded N1 million each to launch their businesses.

Speaking on the foundation’s efforts, Doreen Omosele, Founder and Executive Director, stated, “This year, we focused on providing a holistic approach to rehabilitation, ensuring that these girls have the tools and resources to rebuild their lives. Their transformation is a testament to the power of support and opportunity.”

A significant portion of the funds went toward maintaining the Blossom House, a secure rehabilitation facility where the girls could heal and acquire life skills. The facility also served as a center for counseling, education, and vocational training. Omosele noted, “Blossom House is more than just a shelter; it is a place of hope and renewal for these young women who have faced unimaginable challenges.”

In addition to the rehabilitation efforts, the foundation extended its impact through outreach programs. These included visits to brothels in Ilorin to engage with sex workers directly and the Girl Again Project, a secondary school campaign in Ekiti conducted in collaboration with the Aaron Omosele Initiative. The project focused on raising awareness about teenage pregnancy, the risks of prostitution, and the importance of education.

Omosele expressed her gratitude to the foundation’s supporters, emphasizing their critical role in driving the mission forward. “We are deeply grateful to our donors whose generosity has made these life-changing initiatives possible. Together, we are building a fairer and more just society,” she said.

As 2024 comes to a close, the Blossom Girls Outreach Foundation celebrates the remarkable strides it has made in changing lives, empowering young women, and contributing to societal advancement. The foundation remains committed to its vision of fostering resilience, independence, and dignity among vulnerable populations.

The NGO is moving on in 2025 to rehabilitate 10 sex workers with a Budget of 8 figures.
