A non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Heritage Advancement Forum (HAF), has given free medical checks and treatment to members of Alaguta community in Ajah, Lagos Island.
The medical outreach, according to the organisation, is a social intervention for the less-privileged targeted at helping the needy to cushion the effects of the economic downturn in the country.
The exercise saw both adults and children in the community getting free medical checkup on HIV status, hypertension, diabetes, malaria, typhoid treatment and eye test, among others.
President-elect of HAF, Odion Anegbode, while addressing the over 350 beneficiaries of the medical outreach, yesterday, said the medical checkups would help the residents in lowering risk of illnesses and making them stay healthy.
He said the medical outreach was aimed at helping the elderly and the children in the less-privileged community to sustain healthy lifestyle habits.
Anegbode, therefore, urged all stakeholders to support the government in providing free healthcare services to the vulnerable in the society
noting that “there is a lot to be done as the government’s presence cannot be everywhere.”
In his contribution, Assistant Public Relations Officer, HAF, Paul Ugbesee, said the current economic hardship had made many people not to even think of their health let alone approach healthcare facilities for checkups.
Also, Chairman,Board of Trustees of the forum, Kelvin Ebhojie, admonished the youths in the community to stay away from hard drugs.
