Nigeria, United States host AI conference in Lagos

The United States Department of State and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will convene over 200 stakeholders for the “Global Inclusivity and AI: Africa” conference in Lagos from September 10-11, 2024.

The event will bring together officials from the U.S. and Africa, private sector leaders, civil society and academics to discuss the responsible development and governance of artificial intelligence in Africa.

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of State on Monday, the conference will focus on “identifying and harmonizing AI governance strategies” between the U.S. and African nations to ensure AI systems are “safe, secure, transparent, and trustworthy.

“The conference participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges in responsible development, deployment and use of artificial intelligence (AI). The group will also seek to identify and harmonise AI governance strategies between the United States and African nations to enable AI deployments in Africa to be more safe, secure, transparent, and trustworthy.
