Buhari names Adetifa new NCDC DG
• Okays Osinbajo as chair of health sector reform panel
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. Ifedayo Morayo Adetifa as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to a statement yesterday by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Adetifa is replacing Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who will be resuming an international appointment with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in November this year.
Specifically, Ihekweazu is to resume as the new Assistant Director-General of Health Emergency Intelligence at the WHO and will have his office located in Berlin, Germany.
ALSO yesterday, the Nigerian leader sanctioned the establishment of the Health Sector Reform Committee, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to turn the sector around in collaboration with state governments and the FCT Administration (FCTA).
The panel, which has a lifespan of six months, is peopled by private and public sector healthcare management professionals, development partners, representatives of the National Assembly, as well as members of the Nigeria Governors Forum, among others.
