
• Wins €1m research, N39.4 million TETFund grants
• To churn out 489 graduates, 42 First-Class honours
The Vice Chancellor of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Prof. Olukayode Amund, has renewed the institution’s commitment to support entrepreneurial drive of the nation, as well as improving positively on the town and gown relationship.
Amund said this, yesterday, during a media briefing to herald the combined sixth and seventh convocation ceremony of the university scheduled to hold on Friday, October 21, 2022, and the unveiling of five-year strategic plan to make the university autopilot.
He said priority was given to research and faculty members were encouraged to carry out applied research to support the entrepreneurial drive of the university.
“Notable research grants had also been won by faculty members. A grant for an on-going research on ‘Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP)’ was awarded to Dr. (Mrs.) Omotola Dada of Biological Sciences by UK-Aid and four other European bodies in conjunction with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Pretoria, South Africa.”
“The research, titled, “Biodegradable Mulch (BDM) Films with customized biodegradation Rates in Natural Soil Conditions” has attracted over one million pounds sterling.
“Scientists at Elizade University, in collaboration with their colleagues at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), were recently awarded a TETFUND Research Grant worth N39.442 million,” he said.
The VC, who listed the graduating students to include 42 First-Class, 205 Second Class Upper, 199 Second Class Lower and 39 Third Class, making a total of 489 graduates and 16 per cent increase over the last convocation, said that the Faculty of Law produced its first set of graduating students as all the academic programmes had received full accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and other professional bodies.
Amund disclosed that the institution would introduce new academic programmes to include Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Human Anatomy and Physiology.
