Management of MiddleChase, a leading real estate agency, has unveiled a new product called “Omalicha” to tackle female discrimination in home and property ownership in Nigeria.
It said the Omalicha movement is a trajectory to encourage women to invest in income-producing property, build valuable connections, develop and enhance their careers, as well as recognise and celebrate women’s financial security.
The firm’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Junadia Edim, said the initiative, first of its kind in the real estate sector, is aimed at dismantling the gender-based discrimination against women in a society that discourages them from owing a home.
She observed: “There are so many stereotypes that have been rooted over the years. In some states, we have seen cases where it is forbidden for a woman to own a property, there are also some cases where women are homeless after the death of their husbands and cases where landlords don’t lease their houses to women.
“We are here to change that narrative and tell women that you can do so much more than they can imagine. We came up with a product that is unique to women and we call it Omalicha.”
The Director of Operations, Yemisi Adeegbe, interpreted Omalicha to means a woman that knows her worth and her place in society. Weaving into the company’s mission, the concept also entails a woman that has risen above limitations of women not owning property, adding that that the platform is set to enlighten the gender in Africa and the world at large.
On the Omalicha launch, founder of SheCan Nigeria and Director at Mbr Signature, Ezinne Ezeani, said: “The product is an amazing opportunity that would enable women to own property.”
She however charged women to secure their future with the movement. The product, which caters low-income and high-income earners, formally comes on stream on September 17.
