Group trains N’East youths on first aid 

United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN), in collaboration with Nigerian Red Cross, Maiduguri, has completed a two-day First Aid training for the beneficiaries of ‘Promoting Inclusive Economic Growth and Development through Sustainable Project (PIE-GDP).’

The training at the America Space, University of Maiduguri, was facilitated by First Aid Trainer, Abba Mohammed.

Sponsored by the of the United States (U.S.) Embassy, the training equipped beneficiaries of the PIE-GDP project from the College of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as School of Health and Technology, with crucial life-saving skills, focusing on emergency response, medical assistance and immediate care in various situations, fostering their active roles within their communities.

During the training, Executive Director, UWGN, Deola Durodola, stressed the need for the training, especially occasional emergencies in the North East, adding that UWGN was committed to improving health outcomes of everyone in every community.

“We carried out this training for its potential to save lives in emergencies, reinforce personal safety and create a safer environment. With their education in nursing, midwifery and health technology, these beneficiaries are uniquely positioned to become first responders in critical situations, thereby enhancing the overall well-being of their communities.”

“The partnership between UWGN and the U.S. Embassy demonstrates the collective commitment to fostering sustainable development through skill empowerment. By equipping these beneficiaries with first aid expertise, the training has amplified their capacity to contribute positively to the communities they serve,” he said.

Representative of Red Cross in Maiduguri, Mohammed Ibrahim, said: “First aid training is not just a skill; it is a gift of empowerment we give ourselves and others. In a world full of uncertainties, being equipped with the knowledge to provide immediate care can mean the difference between life and loss. Remember, a moment of training today could save a lifetime tomorrow.”
