IGP urges 10,000 new constables to serve with honour, patriotism

The Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has urged newly commissioned constables to uphold the values of honour, diligence, and patriotism as they join the nation’s policing ranks.

Egbetokun gave the charge on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in Abuja.

The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to continuous training, welfare enhancement, and institutional reforms aimed at sustaining modern policing standards.

According to the statement, a total of 10,000 constables successfully completed their intensive training across various police colleges and training institutions nationwide.

The ceremony, which took place simultaneously on 7 October 2025, marked a major milestone in the force’s drive to strengthen its manpower and boost operational capacity.

Addressing the recruits, Egbetokun commended their perseverance and dedication during the rigorous training period.

He urged them to remain steadfast in the principles instilled in them, stressing that their conduct and professionalism would shape public trust in the police.

“The passing out of this set of constables forms part of the force’s strategic manpower development plan under the current administration.

“It is aimed at improving security presence, enhancing response capabilities, and reinforcing public safety across the country,” the IGP said.

According to him, during their training, the recruits were exposed to modern policing techniques, ethical standards, and practical field operations to prepare them for contemporary law enforcement challenges. The curriculum focused on intelligence-led policing, community partnership, respect for human rights, and the responsible use of authority.

Egbetokun noted that the latest graduation follows the earlier passing out of another 10,000 constables in January 2025, bringing the total number of new officers deployed this year to 20,000.

He expressed confidence that the fresh intakes would contribute significantly to improving security and deepening the bond between the police and the communities they serve.
