Again, 12 persons killed in road crash on Kano-Zaria highway

A ghastly road accident at Samawa village, Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano has claimed the lives of 12 people, with five left with degrees of injuries.

The fatal auto crash occurred in the early hours of Friday along the Zaria highway and involved a heavy truck with registration no. DAF CF95 conveying goods and passengers.

A statement from the Kano Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the trailer, which was heavily loaded, veered off course, resulting in the tragic loss of life.

The release, signed by FRSC spokesperson Abdullahi Labara, revealed that the emergency response swiftly moved the injured victims to Kura General Hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Nassarawa Hospital morgue in the metropolis.

“Out of the 19 individuals onboard, 12 died instantly, five sustained varying degrees of injuries, while two escaped unscathed,” Labara stated.

Although the safety agency noted that investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing, it cautioned motorists to adhere to road safety regulations, especially long-haul drivers operating at night.

In July 2025, FRSC confirmed the killing of 21 persons in a ghastly road accident exactly at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle, Garun-Malam Local Government Area of Kano.

In June 2025, no fewer than 22 Kano athletes also perished around Kasuwa Kifi, near Dakatsalle on the same highway while on their way back home from Ogun State, where they successfully represented the state at the National Sports Festival.

The reason for the ghastly accident that killed the young stars and their instructors has not been established. However, the consistent road crashes around the Garun-Malam Local Government Area are begging for urgent attention.
