The police command in Kano has alerted the public of planned protests which could cause a breakdown of law and order.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement, on Wednesday, also disclosed the arrest of 17 suspects linked to the planned violence.

Already, the police have deployed armed personnel and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at Nassarawa mini palace, where deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero resides a few meters away from the Government House.

Similarly, security men and operational vehicles have been stationed at the entrance of the Government while vehicles en route to the state road and Tarauni have been diverted.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies. The Command appreciates the cooperation and support of the good people of Kano State in our efforts to maintain peace and order,” Kiyawa warned.

The police also warned all individuals and groups against engaging in unlawful gatherings, processions, or violence.

A few weeks ago, the police issued an intelligence report alleging planned terrorist attacks on some strategic locations in Kano and advised residents to avoid public gatherings.
