Delta agency begins flood control operations in Asaba

To mitigate flooding and promote a healthier environment in Asaba, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has initiated a comprehensive flood control operation within the state capital.

The operation includes desilting of the drainage system, clearing overgrown grasses, and removing resulting silts and debris to approved dumpsites.

This initiative is part of the agency’s ongoing strategy to enhance storm water flow, decrease flooding risks, and improve environmental sanitation.

Director-General of the agency, Patrick Ukah, emphasised the importance of the operation as a critical component of the flood management and urban sanitation plan, aimed at protecting lives, property, and public infrastructure.

Ukah stated: “By ensuring our drains are clear, we are reducing flood risks and enhancing environmental health across the capital territory.”

He urged the residents to support the operation by avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal into drains and maintaining good environmental practices.

The agency’s Head of Environment, Isaac Nwosu, who supervised the flood control effort to ensure timely and high-quality execution, said: “We are deploying teams to desilt drains and remove debris to approved dump sites across major areas.”

This is a coordinated effort with strong community involvement.”
