A devastating dynamite explosion ripped through the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in the early hours of Monday, leaving a trail of destruction and sparking fears of escalating political violence.

It was learned that the assailants hurled the explosives into the building, located along the GRA axis, in a brazen attack that has raised concerns about the safety of political parties in the region.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but authorities are racing to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

The 1 a.m. blast, which occurred amidst rumours of a potential defection by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his supporters to the APP, shattered windows, doors, and destroyed property, sending shockwaves through the political landscape.

Party officials, who were seen surveying the damage, condemned the attack as politically motivated.

“This is a clear attempt to intimidate and destabilize our party,” said one official, who wished to remain anonymous. “We demand a thorough investigation and arrest of those responsible.”

The police have promised to look into the incident, but the attack has raised concerns about the safety of political parties and their members in the region.

This latest development comes amidst rising tensions in the political sphere and has sparked fears of further violence in the lead-up to upcoming local government elections.
