Edo task force seals filling station over expired fire extinguishers

The Edo State Petroleum Task Force in Ikpoba-Okha Local Council has sealed NIPCO Filling Station along Upper Sakponba Road for operating with expired fire extinguishers.

The station was shut down on Monday after officials discovered that all its fire extinguishers had expired since 2024.

Leader of the task force team, Ehichoya Joshua, said the management of the station had been repeatedly warned to replace the equipment but failed to comply.

“We came here this morning and found out that the fire extinguishers in this station have expired since 2024. They have been begging and we have cautioned them on the need to replace them.

“It is disastrous not to have fire extinguishers in this facility that has close proximity to residential buildings. We are sealing the station until the right thing is done,” he said.

The management of the station declined to comment on the development.
