Enugu court remands man over cousin’s death

An Enugu State Magistrate Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of 51-year-old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, a member of a neighbourhood security watch group, over the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was arraigned following the conclusion of investigations conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), under directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.

“Detectives have arraigned and secured the remand of 51-year-old Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu… after the conclusion of investigations by the State CID,” said the Enugu State Police Command spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

Ndukwe stated that the suspect was arrested on 1 December 2025 for allegedly assaulting the deceased in an incident that later proved fatal. “Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police directed the State CID to conduct a meticulous investigation and ensure that the case was promptly charged to court,” he added.

The court charged the suspect with one count of murder and ordered that he be remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre. The case file was directed to be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecution, for review and legal advice.

Commissioner Giwa extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring them that the judicial process was ongoing.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” he said, urging them to take solace in the police’s swift action.

“Justice is already in motion, as the investigation has been concluded and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly,” the Commissioner added.

The arraignment follows a series of recent cases in the state and across Nigeria in which suspects have been promptly charged to court after violent incidents, highlighting intensified police efforts to ensure accountability in such matters.
