Imo police begin trial of four officers for alleged extortion
The Imo State Police Command has begun an orderly room trial for four police officers accused of extorting money from the public.
The officers—Inspector Ibrahim Nainna, Inspector Unaka Maxvirgin, Inspector Miller Ibinitta, and Sergeant Antony Alozie—were arrested after a video of the alleged extortion went viral.
The trial was ordered by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, and confirmed yesterday by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye.
The officers are currently in detention, and the outcome of the proceedings will be announced in due course.
In a separate development, Danjuma and his management team have commenced inspections of police divisions, tactical units, and cells across the state.
The inspections aim to assess the conditions of detainees and identify areas needing intervention or rehabilitation.
Okoye noted that Danjuma is particularly concerned about the welfare of detainees and is committed to ensuring that no one is held beyond the legal limit.
This initiative, he said, underscores the police’s accountability to the public and aims to enhance overall performance in line with their mandate.
