Veteran journalist and broadcaster, Aliyu Abubakar Getso, has died in Kano State.
His daughter, Aisha Getso, confirmed the death in a Facebook post early on Sunday, stating that he passed away around 3:00 a.m. at his residence in Jambulu, Kano.
In her message written in Hausa, she announced, “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return! My father (Aliyu Abubakar Getso) has died around 3:00 am on Sunday night. His burial will be held around 9:30 am at his house in Jambulu, by Allah’s grace. May Allah forgive him and have mercy on him, amen.”
Getso, who had a broadcasting career spanning several decades, was a prominent figure in northern Nigeria’s media space.
He worked with notable radio stations such as the Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM, where he earned recognition for his clear delivery and analytical commentary on national and international issues.
Beyond his professional contributions, colleagues and admirers have described him as a mentor to many young broadcasters and a consistent advocate for credible journalism in the region.
He is survived by three wives, children, and grandchildren.
Funeral prayers and burial were held on Sunday morning in Jambulu, where family members, colleagues, and sympathisers gathered to pay their last respects.
