Lagos teacher remanded for assault, indecent treatment of pupil

A Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in  Ogba, yesterday, remanded 45-year-old female teacher, Stella Nwadigbo, in Kirikiri Correctional Facility for indecent treatment and assault of a child.

The suspect, who was arraigned on a two- count charge in Magistrate Court 1, Ogba, by the police, was captured in a viral video indecently treating and assaulting a three-year-old pupil of Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Following receipt of the video, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of Ikorodu Police Division promptly arrested the suspect on Wednesday, January 8, and transferred her to the Gender Unit of the Command Headquarters the same day after preliminary investigations.

Nwadigbo allegedly gave the three years old boy fist blows consistently on his face, which cause him injury and swollen face, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172, 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The victim was taken to a medical facility for adequate medical attention.

She pleaded not guilty to all the counts charge .

Magistrate Olabisi Kusanu, therefore, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, and ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed.

She also remanded Nwadigbo in Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending the perfection of her bail, and adjourned hearing in the case to February 18, 2025.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, commended Nigerians for promptly alerting the police to the situation.

He assured them of the ever-readiness of the Command to respond quickly and appropriately to situations towards ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors to Lagos State.
