The police in Lagos have arrested 23-year-old Gbolahan Adebayo for allegedly beating his 25-year-old girlfriend (name withheld) to death at his home in Ijedodo, Alimosho area of the state.
A neighbour reported to the Isheri Osun Police Division on February 23 that on February 21, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., he saw Adebayo assaulting his girlfriend at his residence for reasons yet to be determined.
The neighbour stated that Adebayo later screamed for help, and upon rushing to his apartment, the girlfriend was found lying unconscious on the bed with visible injuries on her body.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the victim was taken to a hospital in Ijegun, where the doctor on duty confirmed her death.
According to Hundeyin, detectives visited both the scene and the hospital. The victim’s body was inspected, photographed, and subsequently deposited at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) morgue in Yaba for an autopsy.
“The suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin added.
Meanwhile, police have foiled an armed robbery, arrested a suspect, and recovered a stolen vehicle in Sango, Otta, Ogun State.
According to the police, an Uber driver reported to the Isokoko Police Division on February 22, at about 9:23 p.m., that on the same day, a passenger, identified as Kelvin Musa, boarded his Toyota Camry at Nitel, along Old Abeokuta Motor Road, Agege, for a trip to the Marriott Hotel in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ikeja.
The driver stated that upon reaching Ile-Zik, the passenger brandished a sharp knife, stabbed him multiple times, and stole his car.
Police officers tracked the vehicle to Oshodi, where the suspect was intercepted and arrested. The stolen vehicle was recovered and taken to the station. The victim was later transported to the hospital for treatment.
In another development, on February 23, at about 5:00 p.m., a man identified as Mohammed reported to the Trinity Police Division that a 40-year-old scrap dealer had purchased a disused fire extinguisher. While attempting to dismantle it at about 4:30 p.m., the extinguisher exploded.
The explosion caused injuries to the scrap dealer and two others, aged 50 and 45 years. They were rushed to the Ajegunle General Hospital for treatment.
Detectives visited both the scene and the hospital, where the victims were receiving care. Investigations are ongoing.
