About 12 passengers have been killed in a multiple auto crash along the Bayamari-Geidam road in Yobe State.

The incident, which occurred at kilometre 20, Chelluri village, involved three vehicles, including a stationary truck, and happened at about 10:00 p.m.

Confirming the crash in Damaturu yesterday, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Livinus Yilzoom, said the tragedy involved a truck with registration number MAG 831 ZR and a mini bus with registration number BAU 124 YF.

“The mini bus rammed into the truck and burst into flames, resulting in the death of 12 passengers, including 10 males and a mother and her child, who were burnt beyond recognition,” he said.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was caused by the obstruction posed by the stationary truck and the bus driver’s overspeeding.

Yilzoom cautioned drivers against night travel, especially during the hazy harmattan season, which reduces visibility. He also urged motorists to adhere strictly to road traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.
