A violent clash between suspected members of the Vikings and Iceland cult groups at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni in Obio-Akpor Council of the state has left one person feared dead and several others injured.

The bloody confrontation occurred on Monday during the Students’ Week celebrations at the Rumuolumeni campus, with eyewitnesses reporting that students wielding machetes attacked each other.

However, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Okiridu, has disputed reports of a fatality, saying that prompt intervention by security operatives prevented any loss of life.

According to Okiridu, members of the ONELGA Security and Protection Advisory Council (OSPAC) had been deployed to the campus to prevent anticipated violence during the Students’ Week, and their efforts ensured that only a few individuals sustained injuries.

The incident has further raised concerns about cult-related violence on university campuses.
