Abayomi Adelakun, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and pastor at Foursquare Gospel Church, has revealed that his decision to contest for the chairmanship of Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is driven by a divine calling and a commitment to community development.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, Adelakun, a former Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Igbogbo Baiyeku, shared how his journey into politics began.

“God told me to go and save the dying souls, but as a pastor, I initially interpreted it as a call to evangelism,” he recalled. For months, he preached on public buses, believing he was fulfilling the mandate. However, a deeper revelation made him realise that the “dying souls” referred to the people in his community who needed intervention beyond spiritual guidance.
Motivated by this insight, Adelakun organised three successful medical outreach programmes across the five political wards of Igbogbo Baiyeku between April and June 2024. With support from mentors like Alhaji Dr Muktar Saka Adeshina and medical professionals from Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and the General Hospital, the programme provided healthcare to over 1,500 participants. Those with severe conditions, including high blood pressure and tuberculosis, were personally assisted to hospitals for treatment and care.

The impact of his initiatives did not go unnoticed. In recognition of his selfless contributions, Adelakun was honoured with the Ikorodu Man of the Year award in 2024.
“After the second edition of the outreach, I received a call to come to Ikorodu Town Hall. When I arrived, I was asked if I was a politician or a local government chairman, given my activities. I explained that I was simply acting on God’s instructions, and that was how I was honoured with the award,” he explained.
A Vision for Leadership
Now seeking to lead Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Adelakun believes he is well-prepared for the task. With over 20 years of experience managing human resources and running his own accounting firm, he asserts that his professional background sets him apart from other aspirants.

“My people have been urging me to contest based on my contributions to the community, especially during my tenure as CDC Chairman. I have brought impactful and purposeful leadership, and now I am ready to take it further,” he stated.

If elected as chairman, Adelakun has outlined key areas of focus, including education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and infrastructural development.

Adelakun also highlighted plans to promote tourism by leveraging the area’s coastal attractions, such as Ibeshe, Baiyeku, and Offin/Oreta, to boost local economic opportunities.
A Commitment to Serve

“I am committed to fast-tracking the development of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA. As I always say, you can do small things in a great way,” he stated.
With a strong foundation in professional experience, community service, and divine direction, Adelakun is poised to bring purposeful leadership to the people of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
