Governor AbdulRazaq aims to transform Kwara into Nigeria’s destination hub

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the state into a prime destination for innovation, healthcare, tourism, and economic development. During a visit to sites of his flagship projects, including the nearly completed Innovation Hub in Ilorin, the Governor outlined his vision to create a thriving ecosystem that will elevate Kwara as a go-to destination in Nigeria.
“Our focus is to create an ecosystem that projects our state to the world and makes us more attractive,” Governor AbdulRazaq said. The Governor highlighted significant investments in projects such as a garment factory, international conference centre, visual arts centre, film factory, shea butter factory, and the Innovation Hub. These initiatives, he explained, are designed to bolster the economy, generate employment, and showcase Kwara’s potential on a global scale.

Healthcare also remains a key priority for the administration. Governor Abdulrazaq noted that his government is upgrading critical medical infrastructure to strengthen healthcare delivery at all levels. “We are rebuilding and expanding the Civil Service Clinic into a major referral centre at the secondary level. The Ilorin General Hospital has been converted into a University Teaching Hospital, and Sobi Specialist Hospital is set to become Al-Hikmah University Teaching Hospital,” he said.
The Innovation Hub, which is 99 per cent complete, according to a statement made available to The Guardian by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, is poised to become a continental standard for technology and entrepreneurship. “Our target is to have five unicorns within ten years,” the Governor revealed. He emphasised that partnerships with major firms like IHS are already in place to ensure the hub’s functionality and long-term success, with investments worth over ₦10 billion expected over the next decade.

Governor AbdulRazaq’s ambitious plans also extend to enhancing Kwara’s transport infrastructure. “By next December, you will see a flood of people coming to Kwara. We want an airport with four flights or more arriving and departing daily,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated, adding that these efforts aim to restore Kwara to its former glory as a key player in Nigeria’s economy during the First Republic.
Through these transformative projects, the Governor is positioning Kwara as a hub for innovation, healthcare, tourism, and economic growth, setting a new standard for development in Nigeria.
