NITR suspends DG for alleged gross misconduct
The Governing Council of Nigerian Institute For Trypanosomiasis Research (NITR), Kaduna State, has suspended the Director-General of institute, Dr. Felicia Enwezor, for alleged gross misconduct.
The Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Lambu, stated this during the first board meeting at NITR Headquarters, Kaduna, after the National Industrial Court (NIC) Nigeria judgment in Abuja.
According to him, the suspended DG failed to respect and implement the court order delivered of May 18, 2022, which reinstated the governing council.
Lambu said the suspended DG refused to take lawful orders as directed by the authorities to convene board meeting despite council’s instruction.
He said: “Dr. Felicia Enwezor was absence from duty without overseeing capacity on many occasions. Other offences include insubordination, nepotism, illegal issuance of queries, demotion of staff and recall of more than 100 staff on training without due processes.”
Meanwhile, the council has set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter and report to the council in two weeks.
A council member, Dr. Aminu Magaji, chairs the committee, while Abdulrazak Usman serves as the secretary.
The suspension will remain in force to give room for the committee to discharge their responsibility. The NITR council also directed the most Senior Director of Research, Dr. Joseph Ajakaiye, to oversee the affairs of the institute, pending outcome of the investigation.
