Renowned photographer, Akinleye, others to speak at World Photography Day
The Guild of Photojournalists Nigeria (GPN), in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), is set to celebrate the 2024 World Photography Day (WPD) with children and budding photographers to encourage and inspire the next generation of photographers.
The children, according to a statement signed by Secretary of the GPN, Odutayo Odusanya, were picked from various primary and secondary schools in Lagos and Ogun states respectively.
They would have the opportunity to go through the history of photography and also be tutored on the darkroom and studio setups for photographic practices.
The keynote speaker, Akintunde Akinleye, who was Reuters photographer for West Africa and whose photography had documented Nigeria’s postcolonial history, is expected to give an insight into the theme of the year’s event, “An Entire Day,” and also give updates on the current profession’s dynamism.
Also, the Chairman of GPN, Abiodun Ajala and Deputy Director of the NIJ, Dr Boye Ola, will also speak at the event on related topics.
The event will feature an awareness walk and photo exhibition by members of the GPN and students of the NIJ.
Some of the partners for the 2024 WPD include Nestle Nigeria Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria, Coca-Cola and Nigeria Bottling Company.
World Photography Day is celebrated every August 19 and is an opportunity for photographers all around the world to share their ideas, innovations, and art. It also promotes communication between people from different cultures and countries, helping to foster a sense of global community.
