The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Alagbon, Ikoyi, has sought the cooperation of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to address the issue of illegal immigrants occupying construction sites across the state.

The command’s Comptroller, David Adebambo, made this request during a courtesy visit to the LASBCA General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, at his office in the Government Reserved Area (GRA), Ikeja, Lagos.

Adebambo commended LASBCA’s efforts in safeguarding lives and property through the effective monitoring, supervision, and inspection of ongoing construction projects.

He assured Oki of the NIS Command’s readiness to collaborate with the agency to rid construction sites of illegal immigrants and miscreants who use the premises for criminal activities.

In his response, Oki thanked the comptroller and his team for their visit and pledged LASBCA’s commitment to enforcing best practices in the built environment. He highlighted the agency’s core mandates and its proactive measures to ensure compliance with building standards.

Oki also expressed appreciation for the NIS command’s efforts in reducing the influx of illegal immigrants in Lagos and across the country. He promised continued collaboration with the command to sensitise artisans, particularly those from neighbouring countries, on the benefits of obtaining legal work permits.

The LASBCA boss noted that the agency’s yearly mega stakeholders’ engagement for artisans in the built environment would be leveraged to educate workers on legal requirements and proper practices.

The meeting was attended by top officials from both LASBCA and the NIS Lagos Command.
