The Northern Elders Political Development Group (NEPDG) has commended the Minister of State for Defense, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for collaborating with other security agencies to improve security in the North West region.

The group said that many towns and villages in the region observed their Eid-el-Fitri festivities without recording cases of bandits’ attacks, which were common in the past.

The group’s secretary, Dr. Adamu Lawal Giwa, in a statement, noted that the improved security has significantly reduced challenges faced by motorists when travelling along major routes and trading activities in the region.

He added that the military’s efforts have led to successful operations against banditry, especially in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states.

“Measures taken under Operation Fansa Yamma as promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have yielded positive results, reducing kidnapping and attacks by bandits in many villages.

“The improved security has brought hope to people, especially during and after the Ramadan fasting period. It is essential to appreciate the efforts of the military leadership and those sacrificing their lives to protect people from bandits,” said Giwa.

Concerns have, however, been raised over reports of pockets of attacks in some villages of Sabon Birni and Isa in Sokoto and communities in Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.

Despite these challenges, Giwa said the group appreciates the military’s efforts to protect lives and properties.

“We applaud the Minister of State Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle’s effort of continuous support to the gallant troops, which boosted their morale to achieve the recorded success so far.”
