NOSDRA assures Ogoni communities of portable drinking water

The Director General, National Oil Spill Detective Regulations Agency (NOSDRA), Chukwuemeka Woke, has said that they have already designed a template to provide drinking water for the people of Ogoni in four local governments of Rivers State.

Woke revealed this while exchanging views with reporters in Abuja, explaining, “We have fourteen schemes we are currently constructing that will alleviate water problems in sixty-eight communities in the Ogoni water project.”

He also stressed that the agency was strengthening health systems, adding, that the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project is responsible for the clean-up of the environment and the restoration of the livelihoods of people.

“In line with Mr. President’s new agenda, we decided to meet and HYPREP to see how both can collaborate and ensure a very smooth, free operations.

“We know that the programmes have a timeline. So, we want to ensure that our super-fast free roads do not in any way hinder the operations of the projects.”

NOSDRA Director General further stated that they want to handle them differently to ensure they are successfully executed and delivered our mandate, emphasising that these are our discussions with the project coordinator.

“We are building the Ogoni Cottage Hospital as well as the Ogoni Specialist Hospital and the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration To say the least, we are accelerating the Ogoni clean-up as well.

“We are on template on shoreline clean-up and to restore oil-degraded mangroves.”
