The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has called on the South-South Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, to strengthen its partnership in addressing environmental challenges associated with oil exploration in the Niger Delta region.
Its Director General, Chukwuemeka Woke, asserted this when receiving the Commander, Rear Admiral N. M. Madugu, on a courtesy visit to its headquarters in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Woke also urged the officers of the Nigerian Air Force and staff of NOSDRA’s Zonal Office, who participated in the discussions, to share insights on strengthening joint operational efforts in the region.
Represented by the Field Head, Ukpenevi Solomon, who warmly received the Commander, Rear Admiral N. M. Madugu, senior military officers, and other paramilitary organisations, he told them to carry out surveillance to protect national assets.
On his part, Rear Admiral Madugu said the interactive session would provide a valuable platform for both parties to discuss and reaffirm their commitment to inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding the nation’s waterways.
He, however, commended the agency for the partnership, which symbolised the renewed partnership and shared commitment to safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainable development in the region.
The key deliberations focused on enhancing joint operational strategies, intelligence sharing, and coordinated response mechanisms to ensure the timely and effective management of oil spill incidents.
