NRC advises Abuja motorists to use overpasses
Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has enjoined motorists and other road-users to always use the two over passes in Kubwa, Abuja, instead of the illegal level crossings that portends danger to life and property.
This is coming as a train belonging to NRC, last Thursday, crushed a woman and her car as she tried to drive across a level crossing in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
Deputy Director, Public Relations, NRC, Yakubu Mahmood, stated, yesterday, that there are two constructed overpasses at different locations in Kubwa and environs for ease and safety of crossing rail lines.
According to him, motorists have, for reasons best known to them, been avoiding the two overpasses and using illegally-constructed level crossings, which have, in recent times, been fatal as a result of collision with trains.
The statement reads: “We appeal to the mass media to use their medium to enlighten the general public on the safety imperative of using the overpass to cross railway lines”.
“The Federal Government Policy on railway modernisation is ensuring safety of motorists and trains through construction of overpasses along all railway lines.”
