The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has renewed its crackdown on oil theft and pipeline vandalism across the country.

In a statement shared on its official social media platform, the agency commended its Special Intelligence Squad for arresting four individuals in possession of two heavy-duty trucks loaded with 94,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

The statement read: “Oil theft: CG NSCDC orders renewed onslaught against vandals, commends special intelligence squad on arrest of 4 suspects with 2 heavy-duty trucks laden with 94,000 litres of stolen crude.”

Meanwhile, the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, recently emphasised the need to recruit more volunteers into the Corps to strengthen its efforts in safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

Speaking during a visit to the Rivers State Command in Port Harcourt, Audi explained that the Corps, with its current workforce of 63,000 personnel, requires additional manpower to meet its statutory mandate, which includes combating crude oil theft and disaster management.

“The duties assigned to us by the government are enormous, herculean, and tasking.

“Ensuring the safety and security of critical national assets and infrastructure is not an easy job. Based on our mapping, the various categories of these assets and infrastructure are extensive, yet our workforce is only 63,000. It is not easy,” he stated.

He said the government and the public have given so much trust in the Corps, hence the need to justify its existence by discharging assigned duties in line with the statutory mandate.
