NYSC DG urges corps members to uphold unity

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has charged members of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream Two to use their service year to promote national unity, integration, and socio-economic development.

Addressing corps members nationwide via a virtual broadcast on Sunday, Nafiu described the orientation programme as a transformative experience designed to instill discipline, teamwork, adaptability, resilience, and leadership.

“You will be trained not just for service but for life,” he said. “From lectures and skills acquisition sessions to sports, social activities, and the Man ‘O War drills, every part of this programme is designed to stretch and strengthen you physically, mentally, and morally.”

The DG emphasized discipline, security, and personal conduct as key expectations for corps members.

He urged them to obey camp rules, wear their uniforms with dignity, and avoid misconduct such as cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and violence, warning that violations would attract firm sanctions.

On security, Nafiu advised corps members to stay alert and avoid sharing sensitive information on social media. “Your safety is our priority, but it also requires your cooperation,” he said.

Highlighting opportunities, he encouraged participants to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which has helped many ex-corps members build businesses and secure funding.

In a similar message, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, urged corps members to be consistent, uphold the values of the scheme, build meaningful friendships, and use social media responsibly.

“The internet does not forget. Stand against division and serve with pride and joy,” she said. “Together, we will keep the flame of unity burning.”
