The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to complete and deliver the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Agbowa, Ikorodu, before the end of 2024.

Sanwo-Olu made this commitment during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 corps members on Friday. The event took place at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State.

The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, assured attendees that the permanent orientation camp would be ready by December.

A total of 4,335 corps members, comprising 1,484 males and 2,851 females, are serving in Lagos State under this stream. However, some were assigned to Oyo and Osun states for the orientation course.

Sanwo-Olu encouraged corps members deployed to the state to fully engage in the orientation programmes for their development.

“You will find various mentorship and entrepreneurial programmes and activities under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative here in camp.

“I urge you to pay close attention to these trainings and programmes, as they are designed to help you achieve self-sufficiency and financial independence during and beyond the service year.

“Make the most of the orientation exercise to network and build relationships that will be impactful,” he said.

In his personal remarks, Ogunlende, who also serves as the state chairman of the NYSC Governing Board, advised corps members to stay active, enjoy their time, and adhere to all camp rules.

“Corps members must remain within the camp, obey camp rules, listen to camp officials, and follow directives.

“Use the orientation course to prepare yourself physically and mentally for the next 11 months when you will be carrying out your primary assignments,” he stated.

The Coordinator of NYSC in Lagos State, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s unwavering support for the NYSC.

Salmwang urged corps members to take full advantage of the orientation programmes for self-development.

“You must understand your role in the development of our nation. Fulfill your duties with unity, integrity, and unwavering loyalty,” she said.

Justice Oyindamola Ogala administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members on behalf of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
