Obidients condemn abduction of Anambra lawmaker, demands release

The Obidient Movement has condemned the abduction of Hon. Justice Azuka, a Labour Party chieftain and member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, describing the incident as a major test of the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to protect lives and property.

Azuka was kidnapped at gunpoint on Christmas Eve along Ugwunaobamkpa Road, Inland Town, Onitsha, while returning home.

The incident has triggered widespread concern and calls for immediate action to ensure his safe return.

National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, in a statement urged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, vigilante groups, and other stakeholders, to intensify efforts to locate Azuka and dismantle suspected criminal hideouts in the region.

“This is a litmus test for the police and security forces to regain public trust. They must act decisively to rescue Hon. Azuka and send a clear message to criminals that lawlessness will not be tolerated,” Tanko said.

The group commended the authorities for recovering the lawmaker’s vehicle but stressed that more urgent steps were needed to ensure his unconditional release.

Tanko emphasised the need for continuous reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture, calling for collaboration between local vigilante groups and state security agencies to curb rising criminal activities.

The Obidient Movement also appealed to Azuka’s family, associates, and supporters to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives by providing any useful information that could expedite his rescue.

“We believe Hon. Azuka will soon regain his freedom. Our focus remains on building a secure Nigeria where all citizens feel safe,” he said.
