Oct 1: PCNGI launches Independence Day events to boost CNG adoption

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) has announced a lineup of events for Nigeria’s Independence Week aimed at increasing the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more affordable alternative to traditional fuel.

The Independence Week activities kick off today, Friday, September 27, with the launch of the CNG Transport Fare Drop Programme. The programme includes a signing ceremony with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to convert fleet vehicles on the Abuja-Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Adavi routes to CNG, offering a 30-40% fare reduction as an incentive.

On Saturday, September, the PCNGI will expand its Commercial Cars Incentive Programme, opening 38 new centres across Kaduna, Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, and Edo states.

On Monday, September 3, will see the PCNGI partner with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to operationalise the Nigerian Police CNG Conversion Program, training cadets to manage strategic conversion centres.

In celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary on October 1, 2024, the PCNGI will launch the CNG Tricycle Empowerment Programme, offering over 2,000 young Nigerians the chance to own and operate CNG-powered tricycles.

On Wednesday, October 2, the Kogi State Conversion Incentive Programme will be launched, handing over CNG buses to the state’s mass transit system and inaugurating three new CNG conversion sites.

The week’s activities will conclude with the CIP launch in Ekiti State on Thursday, October 3, including the handover of CNG buses for interstate routes and the opening of four new conversion sites.

These initiatives reflect the PCNGI’s commitment to promoting CNG adoption through incentives, training, and infrastructure development.
