Ogun State government has distributed Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to some homeowners, whose properties were on a portion of government land allocated to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Pakoto, Ifo, Ogun State.

This gesture was part of the state government’s efforts to encourage residents of the state to apply for genuine land title documents.

The Director-General and Special Adviser, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Segun Fowora, who reiterated Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to the welfare of the good people of the state, said there was a 50 percent discount to the beneficiaries to bring them into home ownership bracket rather than destroying their property.

Fowora explained that it was an extension of the Property Registration Programme (PRP) project of the present government’s land administration reforms to ensure that more citizens of the state were given more opportunities to own lands for economic sustenance.

In a statement, Fowora said: “For today’s symbolic exercise, we have brought our office here to the community to make it easier for the people in this area to benefit from this exercise. Today is symbolic because a lot of people have been doubting whether this will happen, but here we are, giving out Certificates of Occupancy to the beneficiaries who are enjoying this amnesty with 50 percent discount.”

In his remarks, acting Surveyor-General, Oladele Ewulo, congratulated the beneficiaries, advising those still in doubt to quickly key into the initiative.

Also speaking, the Director, Land Services, Adewale Adedeji, while appreciating the present administration for the support to go ahead with the amnesty programme, said the government had overlooked the error committed by the beneficiaries.

In his goodwill message, former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, represented by Kola Ishola, described it as a history-making programme, adding that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had fulfilled its promise to the LUTH community in Ifo through the distribution of the land documents.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs. Fatimoh Oluwatoyin and Mr. Ramoni Ganiyu thanked the government for given them Certificates of Occupancy.
