Ondo: Police confirms kidnap of expatriate worker, killing of his security aide, driver

Unknown gunmen have stormed the site of Rainbow Construction Company in Ondo State and abducted an expatriate worker with the company, Mr. Wali Duo.

The Guardian gathered that Mr. Duo, a Lebanese, was whisked away by the kidnappers on Wednesday night, while his security officer from the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, was killed in an exchange of fire, as well as his driver.

Sources said the incident occurred around Alafia Junction in Owo Local Council of the state, where the victims went to inspect an ongoing road construction.

An eyewitness said the incident threw the community into pandemonium as the gunmen shot into the air for several hours to scare the residents, who scampered to safety.

A resident in the area said the foreigner was inspecting the dualised road being constructed by the state government when the gunmen launched the attack.

He said:  “The soldier attached to him was also killed, while trying to guide him against the captors. The gunmen, who came prepared, also shot the driver.

“Unfortunately, we rushed the driver to the hospital, but he later died as a result of injuries sustained from bullet wounds.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said the police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, assuring that the culprits would be arrested soon.

“The gunmen, after kidnapping the expatriate, killed his driver and a soldier. They also made away with the Hilux van that brought the victims to the site.

“But our men are already combing everywhere to arrest the perpetrators.  I can assure you that they will be arrested soon,” she said.
