One confirmed dead in Ikorodu building collapse

A dead body has been recovered from the site of the building that collapsed in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed this while providing an update on the incident.

LASEMA initially said that it rescued nine persons from the scene, while three people were trapped.

It also said that following distress alerts at 14:02 hours, it activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa.

“Upon arrival of the agency’s tiger and lion Response Teams at the incident scene by 14:40 hours, it was discovered that a two-storey building undergoing construction had collapsed, with three victims trapped under the debris at the aforementioned location.”

LASEMA, however, said that the cause of the collapsed building is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

It stated that three people were reportedly trapped, while nine adult males have been successfully rescued and attended to by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit.

LASEMA said that the search and rescue operation is still ongoing, while emergency responders continue work on the scene of incident.
